The Sharpest Knife Contest finalists by results of 2 days of the Sydney Knife Show
GENERAL KNIVES CATEGORY (non-kitchen)
1st
Opinel Carbone knife - factory edge sharpness near 400 BESS.
Nathan Stuart from Ashtonfield NSW bought the knife in the show from Joint Pacific Trading, took it to the Jende Industries table, and stropped his Opinel on their display nanocloth strops with polydiamonds.
The knife scored 40 BESS, sharper than DE safety razors.
Nathan wins the Award for the Sharpest Knife 2018 and the PT50B Professional BESS Sharpness Tester pictured on the photo.
Congratulations to Nathan! - Nathan's freehand stropping talent has turned a $21 knife into the $310 prize!

Fabian Kreilaus, FK from Illawarra NSW
San-Mai carving knife 75 BESS. This knife is just 25 nano-meters short of a safety razor. This is sharper than scary or crazy sharp, and for the lack of a better term we call it insane sharp.
Fabian sharpened the knife on waterstones.

SHARPNESS ON THE SHOW
Custom made non-kitchen knives sharpness ranged from 150 to 325 BESS, with the majority of the knives scoring between 160-235 BESS.
Factory non-kitchen knives scored in the range of 210-490 BESS; only the ROCKSTEAD folding knife scored 160 BESS.
Custom made kitchen knives typical sharpness was in the range of 130-175.

Buyers of the BESS PT50 Sharpness Testers on the show included knife and axe makers, a straight razor maker, and sharpeners.
