Metallurgy of Steel for Bladesmiths- Dr. Verhoeven
#51
Mr. Mark you are welcome. It is my pleasure to take part in the discussion here. In metallurgy I am a beginner, a self-made man and so reading the explanations provided by Mr. Me2 is for me also important. My physical background allows me deeper insight in some aspects but I have to deepen my general overview.

The simple arithmetic used by calculating the weight % of Carbon in cementite was only an example, how some figures important for understanding Fe-C diagram can be calculated using the periodic table of elements.

My wife is a GP, but she has a good background in chemistry also. When she saw that we are discussing iron carbide, she told me that it will not be very stable compound of iron.

I was quite surprised, because it is true and her statement was based only on general assumptions a knowledge of the periodic system of elements.
