Thank you! Thank you!

Sorry, I should have given more information. I was just happy to get a picture posted last night.  Angel

The handle is mammoth ivory, and the bolster is petrified mammoth tooth. There's a nice little dovetailed brass spacer between the two.

I will be explaining everything regarding my knives, but it will take some time. I promise, this forum will know more about me and my knives than anyone else.

Grepper, the line you're seeing is actually a hardening line, but almost everyone thinks it's a lamination line. It comes from heating the lower half of the blade with an O/A torch and a big welding tip. I bring that steel up to the right temperature and quench the blade.

That makes the edge much harder than the spine. In order to accentuate this feature, I etch the blade in a mild acid. The acid is able to dissolve the soft steel faster than the hard steel, so the hardening line becomes a visible as well as tactile demarcation line.

The reason the line is so sharp is a function of steel. The difference between hardened steel and unhardened steel is an exact temperature. A degree too cool, and the grains of steel will not convert to martensite, or hardened steel.

What you see above that line are my hammer tracks from forging the steel by hand. If you can forge true enough to hammer out a perfectly straight blade, people like you more.  Big Grin

Thank you so much for the kind words, Mr. Rupert!
