Thanks for your kind words, Grepper. I feel like the chronicler on the Lewis and Clark expedition, not the pioneering leader, but helping to fulfill the valuable function of sharing the discovery of the new territory. I have recently learned that several of my guides have actually done these modifications numerous times. My humble Viel has the benefit of some very experienced counsel.
I believe the Viel was designed by a school shop teacher. I mean this in the most positive spirit. The design is straightforward, rugged and simple. The manufacturing quality is excellent. The price is very reasonable and it is designed to work with a common and inexpensive NEMA 48 motor. The single speed motor and larger pulley are well suited to the metal shop environment.
We have expanded the scope of the original vision by adapting the Viel into a very efficient sharpening and multipurpose machine. It still retains its simple charm, but has become a much more capable tool, made even more do by the combined thoughts of the forum.
I am pleased to be a part of this process.
