Hi all,
So my very first knife is getting close, a couple more grits and some elbow grease and we should be good.
Since this is going to be a kitchen knife, it won't likely ever look as good as the day it is finished, but, gotta finish it anyhow.
As far as my first try, I am pretty happy with it, but happier about learning all of the lessons of what I did wrong.
I am designing #2 now, and am really looking forward to that new grinder!

Your pic didn't show up. After you select a New Attachment, be sure to press the Add Attachment button on the right of the screen. That one's gotten me a couple of times!

Yeah. I tried a couple of times, but, no joy.
I did click the 'Add Attachment' after choosing the file, but, it then disappears right after it uploads.
Probably a permission issue.

If you can post, you can attach images. Images files are limited to 250KB. If your image is larger than that, when you try to upload it there should be some error message. As I remember you kind of have to look for the message, but it's there.
So, you could scale your image smaller and/or save it as a JPG file if it is not already.
There is another way to post images too using {img} codes. That allows you to directly link to images on a web site or some hosting site like Photobucket, Flicker and the like. That allows you to display images greater than 250KB.
If you wish to do that and want some help on how to do it, just let me know. I'll be happy to assist.

If anyone is curious about my knifes 'big butt', it was intentional... well sort of.
I like a heavier blade, but, I also like a nice balance.
It is a piece of stainless pipe, with an end cap tig welded on, then filled with molten lead until it 'felt right'.
And be careful saying 'my knifes big butt' around your wife

That's a really nice looking knife! I like the shape of the blade, and can see how it would work very well. The handle looks very comfortable to hold too. Not bad for a first knife!
What kind of wood is the handle?

The handle is a very old piece of cocobolo I had laying around in the shop.
I wasn't aware of the toxicity of that wood until Mark informed me, and then I googled it, and it scared me.
Nasty stuff, but, I haven't had a reaction to it yet. But, I am now way more careful with it.
I hand carved it from a square block after bonding it to the blade with slow set epoxy.
Not certain if I would do that again. Preforming it, at least rough shaping, seems more efficient.
I definitely put the handle on too early. The blade was not finished enough.
Lesson learned.
